A BEAST OF A SHOW

Knights Templar students performed a local production of Beauty and the Beast during the February half term, as part of the Letchworth Young Arcadians group. The cast included two sixth formers with principle roles.

Georgia Paulus-Nield (Year 13) played Babette, one of the castle’s maids. Her performance was characterised by her French accent and engaging tone, which really helped to stand her out to audience members. However, Dan Barnicott (Year 12) eclipsed even Georgia as the Beast. Despite the size of the role that he was taking on, Dan managed to portray the true essence of the character, depicting the Beast as a complex, emotional and angry character.

Add that to the music, harmonies, choreography and enthusiasm from all of the children performing; it was a resounding success.

The talent onstage was matched by the artistry off stage. The costumes were a triumph, shown particularly by Dan’s costume of the Beast. The ‘reveal’ scene where the Beast transformed into a handsome prince was magic and the lighting just added a finishing touch to what was a brilliant show.

Dan later went onto social media to say that, “Being in Beauty and the Beast has been the most incredible six months.”

Shortly after the final performance, the society praised the cast members online for their hard work and effort shown throughout the process: “There were so many ‘stand out’ performances during the week that it is impossible to single anyone out but there is certainly a lot of wonderful talent in our youth section. This enchanted story was brought to life in a magical way by our young performers.”

All the students that were part of the production should be greatly appreciated for putting on a fantastic rendition of this classic, whilst also showcasing the school’s talent for drama and performing arts.
