SKY'S THE LIMIT FOR KTS MEDIA STUDENTS

On Tuesday 4th October, Gifted and Talented Media Studies students were treated to a day out at Sky studios in London.

Pupils in Years 11-13 took part in a Careers Lab run by Sky Academy, who are responsible for the training and hiring of workers at the media giant.

The day was jammed-packed with tasks and activities, which included pitching a new television show to teachers. The best idea was created by a group that included Darcy Fisher in Year 11, who thought of an idea of a new celebrity panel show called “James Cordon On Demand”. The show featured a variety of guests talking about what has been happening on the small screen in the last week. All the teachers agreed that it was a, “Great idea with an equally good presentation”.

In addition to the activities, students and teachers were also given a behind-the-scenes tour of the Sky broadcasting studios. They were able to look inside a production gallery and the set of Friday Night Football. The group were even given a cheeky little wave by Sky Sports presenter Rob Wotton whilst looking through the window of Sky Sports News HQ. Who later tweeted, "Looks like you had a great time. Glad you enjoyed it."

Year 13 Media Student Charlie Rodgers was hugely impressed by what was on show throughout the session. “I found it very intriguing to see what happens behind the scenes of a corporation like Sky," said Charlie. "With the games and opportunities on offer, it showed me more clearly how I could use the skills that I hope to gain in the future.”

English teacher and Newscast coordinator Mr McDermott was equally impressed.

“The day was just excellent," remarked Mr McDermott. "The students showcased their creativity and worked hard. For everyone looking at careers in TV this was inspiring day. We saw the inner workings of a TV studio - and even brushed shoulders with actors dressed in Wild West costumes.”

Overall, it was a eye-opening and enjoyable day for all. A big thank you must go out to Miss Baker who organised this excellent trip.
