COFFEE, CAKE AND CHARITY

On the 30th of September, the Knights Templar school held its annual MacMillan coffee morning

Students baked an incredible 2500 cakes for MacMillan and in a cake-tastic morning raised well over £2,000 for charity.

MacMillan’s ambition is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and to inspire millions of others to do the same. The money raised will go to McMillan nurses who help those who have been diagnosed with cancer through treatment as well as family support.

“I really enjoyed the day," said Matthew Speed, Year 13. "I found my lemon drizzle cake delicious! I am glad that we made a lot of money for MacMillan as it is a great charity”.

As an incentive for the pupils to make cakes, the school picked the top three cakes. With the winner being Katie Wayne from 9 Knights who made an anti-gravity Macmillan coffee mug.

In second place was Kashi Williamson from 7 Hine who made a McMillan sponge cake with daisies on top. In third place was Emma Becks who produced a splendid pink cake.

Emily De Fraine in Year 12, who was a crucial part to the successful MacMillan fundraiser event team, was overjoyed by how the morning went.

“The coffee morning was very successful,” said Emily. "We raised a lot of money for a good cause and had a good time organising it. Sometimes it can be quite stressful running an event that has previously been put on so well, but I hope we managed to make the morning enjoyable for everyone.

“I would like to say thank you on behalf of Ellen and myself to all the sixth formers who helped organise the morning and to those who made cake, they all looked fantastic.”

Assistant Head teacher Mrs Levesley thought that an event like this has always been a success in many different ways. She said: “I think that McMillan is a fantastic example of how students at school come together and unite for worthwhile cause. It was a fun day, the sixth form were great and there was a good buzz around the school on Friday”.
