WINTER BALL: A SPIRELLA SENSATION

the sixth form enjoyed the traditional winter ball at the Spirella building in Letchworth

We were warmly greeted by members of staff. Before we made our way up the many stairs, many had their photos taken by Lauren Marshall. In the ballroom, we had the opportunity to gamble with 50 Litchfield dollars each whilst listening to Year 13s performing energetic dance music on stage. The games consisted of a roulette wheel, blackjack and craps. Then we all sat down to enjoy a sumptuous meal.

Sausage and mash was a roaring success with the majority of revellers. I opted for salmon which, while tasty, proved to be a small portion for a hungry scribe. As we ate, Sam Prior (Year 12) performed some sensational magic tricks and baffled and excited all he met.

Once the meal had finished, Mrs Hopkins presented awards. The winners included of Amanda Ludbrook (Biggest Flirt), Joe Croker (Biggest “Gym Lad”), George Morphew (Biggest Gossip), Eliot Campbell-Gumb (Biggest Drama Queen), Anil Sidhu and his muscles (Biggest Bromance). Although, everyone looked great on the night, Mrs Hopkins chose just one boy and girl for the Best Dressed Award. Alex Massey won the best dressed male with his kilt attire and Nyree Barnes won the best dressed female. After the awards we all flocked to the dance floor for hours of fun and moves.

“The night couldn’t have got any better! I had a great time and by the looks of things everyone enjoyed themselves,” said Chloe Gower, a member of the Winter Ball committee.

“I had a great time at dinner dance," said Eliot Campbell Gumb, "although I was personally in shock when it was announced that I was a nominee let alone winner of Biggest Drama Queen. Hannah (Barnett) should have won this award!"

The evening was one to remember. A lot of credit, has to go to Priya Mann and the Winter Ball committee who organised this great event. ”The event went exactly to plan," smiled Priya. "It could have not gone any better! It was a great team effort and a very special memory of our last year together in sixth form."
